Severe pre-eclampsia can result in short-term adverse cardiovascular effects, according to results of a prospective observational study reported online June 25, 2018 in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Women with severe pre-eclampsia have higher right ventricular systolic pressure, higher rates of abnormal diastolic function, decreased global right ventricular longitudinal systolic strain, increased left-sided chamber remodeling, and higher rates of peripartum pulmonary edema, when compared with healthy pregnant women.
